This Master was painted by Piet Mondriaan in 1921. Piet Mondriaan is considered as the pioneer of the abstract art as his artistic direction changed from figurative painting to an increasingly abstract style, until he reached a point where his artistic vocabulary was reduced to simple geometric elements. He was known for his use of primary colours and straight lines. The painting is currently displayed in the Gemeente Museum in The Hague.
